DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE
=======================
Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs
differ on details--some request registration while others require
it; some specify a maximum trial period. With registration, you
get anything from the simple right to continue using the software
to an updated program with printed manual.
Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are
of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs
and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy
and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
specific group. For example, some authors require written
permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their
Shareware.
Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You
should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes
fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.
And because the overhead is low, prices are low also. Shareware
has the ultimate money-back guarantee--if you don't use the
product, you don't pay for it.
DISCLAIMER-AGREEMENT
--------------------
Users of The Letterhead Kit must accept this disclaimer of
warranty: "THE LETTERHEAD KIT IS SUPPLIED AS IS. THE AUTHOR
DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING,
WITHOUT LIMITATION, THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND OF
FITNESS FOR ANY PURPOSE. THE AUTHOR ASSUMES NO LIABILITY FOR
DAMAGES, DIRECT OR CONSEQUENTIAL, WHICH MAY RESULT FROM THE USE
OF THE LETTERHEAD KIT."
The Letterhead Kit is a "shareware program" and is provided at no
charge to the user for evaluation. Feel free to share it with
your friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part
of another system. The essence of "user-supported" software is to
provide personal computer users with quality software without
high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to
continue to develop new products. If you find this program useful
and find that you are using The Letterhead Kit and continue to
All Rights Reserved (C) Copyright 1992 Jerry Stern
L E T T E R H E A D K I T ( D O S ) V. 2.0 4
use The Letterhead Kit after a reasonable trial period, you must
make a registration payment of $10. to Science Translations. The
$10. registration fee will license one copy for use on any one
computer at any one time. You must treat this software just like
a book. An example is that this software may be used by any
number of people and may be freely moved from one computer
location to another, so long as there is no possibility of it
being used at one location while it's being used at another. Just
as a book cannot be read by two different persons at the same
time.
Commercial users of The Letterhead Kit must register and pay for
their copies of The Letterhead Kit within 30 days of first use or
their license is withdrawn. Site-License arrangements may be made
by contacting Science Translations.
Anyone distributing The Letterhead Kit for any kind of
remuneration must first contact Science Translations at the
address below for authorization. This authorization will be
automatically granted to distributors recognized by the ASP as
adhering to its guidelines for shareware distributors, and such
distributors may begin offering The Letterhead Kit immediately.
(However, Science Translations must still be advised so that the
distributor can be kept up-to-date with the latest version of The
Letterhead Kit.)
You are encouraged to pass a copy of The Letterhead Kit along to
your friends for evaluation. Please encourage them to register
their copy if they find that they can use it. All registered
users will receive a copy of the latest version of The Letterhead
Kit system.
Registrations, Site Licenses, and Permission to distribute are
available from: Jerry Stern, Science Translations, P. O. Box

INSTALLATION
============
If you are reading these files on screen, you may print them with
the PRINTDOC.BAT batch file. (Don't print them from WordPerfect--
they are formatted with page breaks for printing from DOS.)
From the DOS prompt, log to the directory holding The Letterhead
Kit distribution files. Start the PRINTDOC file by typing it like
this:
printdoc lpt1
(where lpt1 is the name of your printer--change it as needed for
your system.)
INSTALLING THE FILES
--------------------
Before installing the letterhead files, make a backup copy of the
distribution disk, and store the original disk in a safe place,
preferably in a different location than the backup copy of the
disk. Install the files from the backup disk, not the original.
The Letterhead Kit must be installed on your hard drive to be
used easily. The INSTALL batch file will create a directory
called c:\ltrhead on your hard drive, and this is the easiest way
to install and use The Letterhead Kit. If you must install the
package on some other drive, DO NOT use the INSTALL batch file,
but instead follow the manual instructions under the heading
"OTHER DRIVES" on page 8.
You must tell the INSTALL batch file what directory is being used
to hold your WordPerfect macros. If you don't know where WP keeps
your macros, look in Setup (Shift-F1), choose (6) Location of
Files, WRITE DOWN the entry under (2) Keyboard/Macro Files, and
press Exit (F7). Do not make any changes in the Location of Files
list.
To install The Letterhead Kit macros, run the batch file
INSTALL.BAT from the DOS prompt while logged to The Letterhead
Kit distribution disk or directory. Type:
install c:\wp51
(where c:\wp51 is the location used by WordPerfect to hold its
macros.)
Or type:
install d:\wp51\macros
(where d:\wp51\macros is the location used by WordPerfect to hold
its macros.)
All Rights Reserved (C) Copyright 1992 Jerry Stern
L E T T E R H E A D K I T ( D O S ) V. 2.0 8
The install batch file will create a directory named ltrhead on
your C: drive, and copy a complete set of files to it. Install
will also copy the macros to the WordPerfect macros directory
that you have identified. Once the install batch file finishes
copying files, you are ready to start using The Letterhead Kit--
go on to the next section.
FILE SHARING BETWEEN DOS AND WINDOWS
------------------------------------
If you also use The Letterhead Kit version 2.0 for Windows, the
packages will share the c:\ltrhead directory, and use the same
graphics and forms, except for the main letterhead forms, LETTER-
W.FRM and LETTER-D.FRM. Because sharing the same file between the
DOS and Windows versions of WP 5.1 will usually cause
reformatting and font changes, The Letterhead Kits use different
letterhead forms. The two forms, as shipped, are different but
interchangeable.
Once you have created your own custom letterhead, save it as
LETTER-W.FRM from WP/Win, retrieve it into the DOS version of WP,
make any font changes needed, and save it as LETTER-D.FRM. Both
files should be in the same directory as the other forms and
graphics files.
SAVING HARD DRIVE SPACE
-----------------------
The new directory will need slightly less than 360K of hard disk
space for the entire package, and after you have customized your
letterhead you may delete the files with LET, NOW, DIZ, BAT, and
DOC extensions. The macros must remain in the WP macro directory,
but the duplicate copies in the C:\LTRHEAD directory may be
deleted (extension WPM). Only the FRM and WPG files must remain
in C:\LTRHEAD, and will use about 110K.
OTHER DRIVES
------------
If you choose to install The Letterhead Kit in some other
directory than c:\ltrhead, be warned: You have several steps
ahead of you that are not for beginners. If in doubt, use the
c:\ltrhead directory and the install batch file, and leave this
section alone!
1) Copy the macros to the WP macros directory. (The macros
directory is listed under Setup (Shift-F1), (6) Location of
Files, (2) Keyboard/Macro Files.)
All Rights Reserved (C) Copyright 1992 Jerry Stern
L E T T E R H E A D K I T ( D O S ) V. 2.0 9
Throughout this example, "d:\letters" will be the location where
the letterhead graphics, forms, and samples will be stored,
"c:\wp51\wpm" will be WP's macros directory, and "a:" the present
location of The Letterhead Kit. Adjust these paths to match your
own needs.
Make the directory first:
d:
cd \
md letters
Now log back to the drive where the letterhead files are, and
copy the files:
a:
copy *.wpm c:\wp51\wpm
copy *.* d:\letters
2) Next, you must edit the path name in each Letterhead Kit macro
that needs to retrieve a file, which is all of them except HELP!
and RECALC.
CAUTION: any change in a WP macro, if done incorrectly, can cause
unpredictable results when the macro is run. This causes no
permanent damage, but can result in losing unsaved files and lots
of time. Save all files before running newly changed macros.
Finally, ALWAYS edit a backup copy of the macro, and keep an
original safe on another disk.
To retrieve each macro for editing, press Macro Define
(Ctrl-F10), type the name of the macro without its extension, and
press (Enter). Choose (2) Edit from the bottom-line menu that
appears. The macro should appear on screen.
Look on lines 1 and 2 for these statements:
{ASSIGN}path~c:\ltrhead~
{;}PATH MUST END WITH TILDE, NO BACKSLASH
(Statements starting with {;} are comment lines.)
Edit the Assign statement to read:
{ASSIGN}path~d:\letters~
DO NOT type the {ASSIGN} command. Commands in {brackets} are
inserted by pressing Macro Commands (Ctrl-PgUp), and choosing
from the pop-up menu. Resave the file under its original name by
pressing Exit (F7). Make the same change in the each of the other
macros.
3) Run and test the macro.

INTRODUCTION & QUICK START
==========================
WordPerfect 5.1 can create letterheads, invoices, and fax
transmittal forms that look professionally printed. The table
feature creates the boxes within the fax and invoice forms, and
large print can be used in letterheads, even on printers without
large fonts, by creating the large text with either the Equation
Editor or with DrawPerfect. The macros and templates in this
guide will allow you to create fax transmittal forms on your new
letterhead, or invoices and correspondence that include graphics
designed to prompt your clients for quick payments, to guide
shippers with delivery instructions, and to guide your office
staff with informational messages.
To get started quickly, follow these steps:
1) Copy the files to your hard disk--Use the DOS batch file
INSTALL.BAT, included with this package, to automatically install
the files in the C:\LTRHEAD and WP macro directories. See page 7
for help in identifying your macro directory.
2) Try out the macros. (There are instructions for running macros
on page 12.) Begin by running the HELP! macro, choosing the
LETTER macro, then clear the screen and run BILL to create an
invoice, type some amounts in the invoice and total it with the
RECALC macro, and add a payment graphic to it with the PAYME
macro. Print a sample, and adjust your print graphics quality if
needed (see page 17).
3) Browse thorough the other sample letterhead files, which have
filenames with the "LET" extension. To see what these letterheads
look like, you must print or view them. To view a document, press
Print (Shift-F7), (6) View Document, and press Exit (F7) when
done.
4) Rename LETTER-D.FRM to LETTER.OLD.
5) Edit the sample that you have chosen, substituting your own
graphic if you wish, and editing the equation text as needed. The
sample letterheads were designed to print on any printer, so the
fonts are usually smaller than may fit on some pages. The text
sizes can be enlarged or reduced to suit your needs. (Equation
Editor hints are on page 15.) Save the file as LETTER-D.FRM, in
the C:\LTRHEAD directory.
6) Edit, if desired, BILL.FRM and FAX.FRM to customize your
invoice and fax cover sheet formats. DO NOT include the
letterhead as a part of these forms; they should contain only the
ADDITIONAL formatting and text required for these special
All Rights Reserved (C) Copyright 1992 Jerry Stern
L E T T E R H E A D K I T ( D O S ) V. 2.0 11
formats. Suggestions: Add a "Pages Attached" area to the fax, or
"Payment Received" to the bill.
7) Print a sample. Be sure to test the forms by retrieving them
with the matching macro, and adding text before printing. You may
need to add a hard return or three at the end of your letterhead
to position the start of the text correctly.
Interim Releases of WP: Writing software in a macro language
is like controlling a rowboat by towing it from a distance
of five parsecs. The Letterhead Kit for DOS has been tested
on a variety of WP interim releases, and should work in all
future releases. BUT, sometimes new "features" disable old
features, as they did in the 3/9/92 change to the list files
sort options. When this happens, try turning "off" the new
features if the macros don't seem to like the new release.
When in doubt, call or write for support--there will be
either a fix or a new release, as needed, to fix any
problems caused by new features.
USING A PRE-PRINTED LETTERHEAD
------------------------------
If your letterhead is already printed, you can still use The
Letterhead Kit macros to help you use it. When you create your
own version of the LETTER-D.FRM, place only these codes in it, in
the order below.
1) If you are using a printer with multiple bins, add a Paper
Size/Type code that will tell WordPerfect which bin to find your
printed letterhead in.
2) A header or footer or page numbering code and a first page
suppress code. These will add a second-page format to your
letterhead.
3) (REQUIRED) An advance to position code. (Press Format
(Shift-F8), (4) Other, (1) Advance, (6) Position, and type the
starting point on the page where the first line of text may be
printed.)

RUNNING THE MACROS
==================
Once the macros have been installed in WP's macro directory, they
may be run in several different ways. The easiest way is the
Help! macro, in (1):
1) You may run the HELP! macro by pressing Macro (Alt-F10),
typing "help!" and pressing (Enter). A box will appear listing
all The Letterhead Kit macros. Press the number next to the macro
you would like to run, or press any other key to return to the
document screen.
2) You may run any macro directly, by pressing Macro (Alt-F10),
typing the name of the macro, such as "fax" or "payme" and
pressing (Enter).
3) You may assign individual macros to an Alternate letter key,
such as Alt-H. For example, to assign the HELP! macro to Alt-H,
press List (F5), type the name of your WP macro directory, and
press (Enter). Place the locator bar on HELP!.WPM, and choose (8)
Copy. For the new file name, type "ALTL.WPM" and press (Enter).
Press List (F5) to exit the List Files screen, and test the copy
by pressing (Alt-L). The Help! macro box should appear.
4) You can assign any macro to a Control key. See the WordPerfect
manual, in the section "Keyboard Layout: Edit," for instructions.
HELP!
-----
The HELP! macro provides two functions. First, it displays a
quick reference window describing what each macro in The
Letterhead Kit does. Second, it allows you to run any of The
Letterhead Kit macros directly. To just look at the quick
reference display, run HELP!, and press any key when done. To
choose a macro to run, press the number next to it.
LETTER
------
When you run the LETTER macro, no matter which of the methods you
have chosen for running the macro, the results will be the same.
From an empty document, LETTER will retrieve the letterhead, add
the date as text at the bottom of the form, and place the cursor
in the proper position for you to begin typing your letter. If
the document is not empty, LETTER will automatically position the
letterhead and date above the existing text.
All Rights Reserved (C) Copyright 1992 Jerry Stern
L E T T E R H E A D K I T ( D O S ) V. 2.0 13
The FAX macro will also position existing text AFTER the form,
but the BILL macro will position old text after the letterhead
and date, but BEFORE the invoice box.
FAX
---
The custom letterhead may be used a fax transmittal form. The
macro FAX automatically retrieves both the letterhead and the fax
transmittal. When the macro ends, the cursor will be in the "To:"
block of the Fax address block. Type the name and address or fax
telephone number, and end each line by pressing (Enter). The
cursor will jump to the next line of the form only after pressing
(Enter)--WordPerfect's automatic line wrap feature has been
turned off inside the table used to create the fax form.
BILL
----
The custom letterhead may be used on an invoice. The macro BILL
automatically retrieves both the letterhead and the invoice. When
the macro ends, the cursor will be in the first box at the top of
the date column. The date above the table will already contain
the current date. End each line by pressing (Enter). The cursor
will jump to the next line of the form only after pressing
(Enter)--WordPerfect's automatic line wrap feature has been
turned off inside the table used to create the invoice.
You may change the length of the invoice table very easily. To
add lines, position the cursor in the detail lines portion of the
invoice, and press Ctrl-Insert. One additional line will be added
to the table. To remove a line, press Ctrl-Delete, and answer Yes
to the "Delete Row?" prompt.
RECALC
------
Another macro, RECALC, calculates the total for the lines entered
on the bill. When you run the macro, it will find the table in
your document, and recalculate all of the calculated values. You
may use RECALC in other tables as well, but if your document
contains more than one table, you must position the cursor in the
table before running RECALC. If the cursor is not inside a table
when the macro is started, it will recalculate the FIRST table in
the document. You may edit the total box after calculation if you
prefer a dollar sign or commas displayed as part of the total.

L E T T E R H E A D K I T ( D O S ) V. 2.0 14
PAYME, SHIPME and LABELME
-------------------------
The macro PAYME is used to add graphics to the invoice, or any
other document. These graphics are similar to the expensive
labels available for collecting overdue accounts. SHIPME adds
messages such as "Rush!" or "Next Day Air!" or "Magnetic Media--
Do Not Bend!" LABELME adds general office messages, like
"Confidential" or "OK to pay" or "Draft." A complete printed
index of all thirty message graphics is sent to all registered
users of The Letterhead Kit.
To add a message graphic to an invoice, start the PAYME, SHIPME,
or LABELME macro. A list of the messages available will appear on
the screen. Press the number beside the message to be used, and
the graphic will be added at the current cursor location.
SIGN
----
The SIGN macro adds the graphic named AUTOGRPH.WPG to the current
document at the current cursor location. The sample AUTOGRPH.WPG
file included with The Letterhead Kit is of the most famous
signature available--"made large so that the King can read it
without his spectacles." You will probably choose to substitute
your own scanned signature.
SCANNED LOGOS: Registered users may also choose to have their
logo or signature scanned at 400 dots per inch and converted to
WPG format. Enclose $5.00 additional for each logo or signature
to be prepared.
IMPORTANT: Include a clean copy of your logo, preferably
shipped as a sandwich between two index cards. Use a

EDITING EQUATIONS AS TEXT
=========================
Nearly all letterheads will benefit from the use of a reasonably
oversized typeface. Users of printers with scalable fonts, or of
scalable font add-on software, can use scalable fonts for large
text, but for users who have no other way to create a large
typeface, WordPerfect can print large print in two additional
ways: The typeface may be imported as a graphic from DrawPerfect,
which works reasonably well, or the typeface may be created in
the Equation Editor, which can print any text needed in any size.
The sample letterheads provided with The Letterhead Kit for DOS
use the Equation Editor to provide large text.
In most ways, using the Equation Editor to provide text for a
letterhead, or for a newsletter headline, is no different than
using it for mathematics. However, the tips below should help
adapt the editor to our simpler uses.
1) To edit an equation, press Graphics (Alt-F9), (6) Equation,
(2) Edit, type the equation number (or accept the default), and
press (Enter). Press (9) Edit to enter the Equation Editor. In
the bottom box, edit the text as you would edit normal text.
Changes that you make will not show in the equation display box
until you press Screen (Ctrl-F3) to redraw the equation. When you
are finished making changes, press Exit (F7) twice to return to
the document screen.
For more help, enter the Equation Editor as above, and then press
Help (F3). (The Equation Editor help screen cannot be reached
from outside the editor.)
2) The Equation Editor, by default, uses italics for everything.
To print any text in a normal typeface, enclose the text in
brackets, and place "func" before it, like this:
func{This text will print in a normal typeface.}
3) Spaces between words will not appear as spaces in the
equation. The example above will print as "Thistextwillprint..."
Replace all full size spaces with tildes, like this:
func{This~text~will~be~properly~spaced.}
4) Half-size spaces are available. Some spaces using the tilde
will be too large, so replace tildes as needed with the reverse
single quote:
func{1234`Half`Spaced~Avenue}
5) Some words represent mathematical commands or symbols, and
will not normally print as text. Any word listed in the

L E T T E R H E A D K I T ( D O S ) V. 2.0 16
right-side box on the Equation Editor screen has a symbol
attached, but here are the words and characters most likely to
cause problems in normal text:
and not or to from over # &
Precede those words with a reverse backslash to tell the Equation
Editor to print the word instead of the symbol.
"Wilma & Betty's Over & Under Weavers, Inc." would become:
func{Wilma~\&~Betty's~\Over~\&~Under~Weavers,~Inc.}
6) The size of text is set by pressing Setup (Shift-F1) from
within the Equation Editor, and then choosing (2) Graphical Font
Size, (2) Set Point Size, typing the size in points, and pressing
(Enter) to return to the Equation Editor. One point equals 1/72"
of an inch, and normal text ranges from 10 to 12 points. Try
using 18 to 24 point text as a starting point for your
letterhead.
Normally, all the text within the equation will use the same
point size. However, in releases of WordPerfect dated 12/31/90
and later, the new SCALESYM command will allow portions of an
equation to be made larger or smaller. Here is the description of
the new command, from the WordPerfect Corp. Enhancements disk:
Equations, Command Syntax (12/31/90)
The SCALESYM command has been added to the Equation Editor.
The syntax is SCALESYM n symbol, where n is the percentage
of the normal size of the symbol. For example, to make the
integral sign 300% larger, type SCALESYM 300 int.

TROUBLE-SHOOTER'S GUIDE
=======================
These hints and explanations should not be needed for using the
letterhead, blank forms, macros, and payment graphics, but
browsing through them may save you time and improve your results.
ERROR: FILE NOT FOUND
---------------------
Check the location of the files copied from the distribution
disk. The .FRM files and .WPG files must be in the c:\ltrhead
directory unless installed somewhere else using the instructions
on page 8, and the .WPM files must be in the macro directory. See
the details beginning on page 7.
PAYMENT GRAPHICS PRINT BADLY
----------------------------
Check the Graphics Quality setting on the print menu. The default
setting is medium. Try using high quality instead. You may set
the graphics quality as you print each document, or you may reset
the default setting to high in the setup menu. Press Setup (Shift
F1), (4) Initial Settings, (8) Print Options, (3) Graphics
Quality, (4) High, Exit (F7).
FORMS PRINT VERY SLOWLY
-----------------------
Some combinations of equipment print very slowly. In particular,
clones of the old XT series computer, combined with a nine-pin
dot matrix printer, will become lethargic when printing tables.
Graphics slow down the process even more. However, all of the
payment graphics in this package were created in vector format
with DrawPerfect 1.1. These graphics print more quickly than any
other type of artwork, and deleting the payment graphic from an
invoice will save very little printing time.
Try the Print to Hardware Port option of the releases of
WordPerfect dated 6/29/90 and later. Press Help (F3) to find your
release date (top right corner of the screen). Press (Enter) to
exit help. From the document screen, press Print (Shift F7), (S)
Select, (E) Edit, (7) Print to Hardware Port, (1) Yes, and Exit
(F7) three times to return to the document screen. This new
option will not work with networks, some serial printers, or font
packages that replace the WP printer driver.

WORDPERFECT FREEZES DURING PAGE PREVIEW OR SPELL CHECK
------------------------------------------------------
These problems are not caused by the letterhead forms or macros.
Versions of WordPerfect 5.1 dated through March 1990 had
confirmed problems with these functions. If your WP release date
is earlier than 6/29/90, we strongly recommend upgrading to the
current release. Call WordPerfect Sales at 1-800- 321-4566, with
your license number and credit card, and order the new disks. The
upgrade charges are for shipping only, and well worth it. While
you are on the phone, get the current disks for your printer--it
is best to use a printer driver release dated close to the
release of your program disks.
THE GRAPHICS TEXT DOES NOT PRINT IN THE CORRECT FONT
----------------------------------------------------
If the graphic was created using DrawPerfect 1.1, the font used
by DrawPerfect must be present in the WP.DRS file in the
WordPerfect program directory. The original DRS file that ships
with WordPerfect supports only Courier (typewriter), Helvetica
(no serifs), and Roman (with serifs). The largest WP.DRS file is
the version used by DrawPerfect 1,1, which supports many
additional fonts. If you have registered The Letterhead Kit, and
would like to use a decorative font in your letterhead, contact
Science Translations for assistance. For more information on DRS
files, see page 19.
SAVING A GRAPHIC TO FILE FROM A DOCUMENT
----------------------------------------
Each of the sample letterheads included with The Letterhead Kit
for DOS, The Letterhead Kit for Windows, and each of their bonus
disks contains a graphic from the Wood Clips Clip art Collection.
Overall, there are 22 different graphics stored within the forms.
(The bonus letterheads for the DOS and Windows versions of The
Letterhead Kit are different from each other, but each sample is
usable in both packages.)
You can save a graphic that is inside a document, so that you can
use it elsewhere. First, retrieve the document normally. Next,
press Graphics (Alt-F9), (1) Figure, (2) Edit, type the figure
number (usually 1), and press (Enter). From the Definition:
Figure screen, press (9) Edit. The graphic will appear. Press
Save (F10), and type a file name, using a .WPG extension, and
press (Enter). WordPerfect will save the image to a graphic file.
Press Exit (F7) twice to return to the document screen.

DRIVER RESOURCE FILES, SPECIAL CHARACTERS, AND DRAWPERFECT
==========================================================
WordPerfect uses the WP.DRS file to print special
characters, but there are four different driver resource files
available, each with a different purpose, and each of these will
change the printed results of fonts created graphically by
WordPerfect. These fonts include special characters, equations,
and graphics created in DrawPerfect that include text. Which DRS
file should you use? Most users will be satisfied with the
default DRS file, but users of laptops, DrawPerfect, or foreign
language modules may wish to change to another DRS file.
WP.DRS--SHIPPED WITH WORDPERFECT 5.1 FOR DOS AND WINDOWS
--------------------------------------------------------
The WP.DRS file that ships with WordPerfect 5.1 contains
font information for creating the most-used characters in
Courier, Helvetica, and Times Roman. Hebrew, Cyrillic, and some
letters in other character sets will print as simple stick
figures, but most other characters will print nicely.
WPSMALL.DRS--Shipped with WordPerfect 5.1
-----------------------------------------
WPSMALL.DRS is used automatically by WordPerfect if it
cannot find WP.DRS. This small driver resource file is usually
used on laptops or other computers that must run WordPerfect from
floppy disks. The file contains the basic character shapes needed
to print special characters, equations, and DrawPerfect graphics,
but every character will print in the same font, Courier Simplex,
an extremely plain version of Courier that is built as a set of
vectors, or thin lines.
INTERNATIONAL EXPANDED DRS FILE--SHIPPED WITH LANGUAGE MODULES,
OR AVAILABLE FROM WORDPERFECT SALES
---------------------------------------------------------------
The International driver resource file contains only the
font information to match Courier, Helvetica, and Times Roman
fonts, but all the characters, except those in set eleven
(Hiragana and Katakana), will print as normal, fully-fleshed-out
fonts.

L E T T E R H E A D K I T ( D O S ) V. 2.0 20
WP.DRS--Shipped with DrawPerfect 1.1
------------------------------------
The WP.DRS file that is provided with DrawPerfect is much
larger than either of WordPerfect's standard driver resource
files, and it contains character shapes for all the fonts
supported by DrawPerfect. However, many international characters
will still print as stick figures.
If you create a graphic in DrawPerfect that uses a fancy
font, and then bring that graphic into WordPerfect as a WPG file,
the font that WordPerfect uses for the graphic text will be the
font most similar to the original font. For example, Old English
text will print as Times Roman if the WordPerfect standard DRS
file or International DRS file is in use, as Courier Simplex when
using WPSMALL.DRS, or as Old English when the DrawPerfect DRS
file is in use. DrawPerfect users can prevent this problem by
copying the WP.DRS file from their DrawPerfect directory into the
directory containing the WordPerfect program, after renaming the
original WP.DRS file to WP-DRS.OLD for safekeeping.
